Collective Arts - Ransack The Universe IPA
Hamilton, Ontario's Collective Arts has only been available in Massachusetts since this September, but the artwork on their cans have already turned a lot of heads. Over 500 different artists have contributed from all over the world have had their work featured on Collective Arts cans, with many different labels being produced for every beer in the Collective Arts lineup. So don't be surprised if your four pack appears to contain at least two, perhaps three, maybe even four different beers. We assure you that regardless of appearance, all four cans contain a galaxy and mosaic hopped IPA, was freshly packaged in November that is best consumed immediately!
Upland - Hopsynth Dry-Hopped Sour Ale
Even newer to the market than Collective Arts, Indiana's Upland Brewing company just became available in the state this week! Specializing in sours, this beer takes Upland's blonde base sour "Basis" and then dry-hops with experimental hops. Fun!
Wicked Weed - Milk & Cookies
At 8.5% abv, this is a bruiser of a milk stout from Asheville, North Carolina's Wicked Weed. These nutcases tossed some golden raisins, cinnamon, and vanilla into their beer. Seems festive, right? Eggnog for beer drinkers.
Brewmaster Jack - Tennessee Prinse
We've been long-time champions of Tyler Guilmette, the man behind Northampton's Brewmaster Jack, and regularly stocked his beers the first couple of years we were open back in his self-distributed days. Time soldiered on though, and he signed with a distributor. A few beer recalls and a few brewery changes later his beer started appearing much less frequently on our shelves. Out of sight, out of mind. Sometimes that's just how it goes. But it doesn't have to be that way! Tennessee Prinse is a Belgian-style Quad that was aged in Jack Daniels barrels. At 11.5% abv., this is definitely a sipper (indeed the non-barrel aged version is called PrinSIPia) and one where the flavors start coming out more and more as the beer warms.
Barrel House Z - Sunny & 79
This is a "ginned pils"? They took a traditional Bavarian pilsner recipe, added juniper and citrus peel, and aged it in a tequila barrel for a month. This intriguing concoction is a collaboration with Harpoon brewmaster Doug MacNair (the man who was also previously behind New Hampshire's Redhook), so some skilled hands were involved in this effort. Oh, and it's from Weymouth!
Crooked Stave Surrette Provision Saison
Denver's Crooked Stave specializes in wild ales, farmhouse ales, and barrel aged ales, and their Surrette is the closest thing they have to a flagship in their vast lineup. As such, it's the perfect place to start with them (a couple of their other offerings are currently on our shelves as well). A barrel aged saison, this is lightly tart but not a full blown sour beer, with some rustic earthiness.
Way Beer - Sour Barley Wine
Yes, that is indeed a 10.5oz bottle. Where do they even make such a thing? Why, Brazil, of course! Apparently people are making barrel aged sour barleywines near the hometown of MMA legend Anderson Silva. Who knew?
