The history of Domaine de la Cabotte in its essence is that of a woman's decades-long efforts to rebuild a derelict domain. It begins in 1981 when Gabriel d’Ardhuy, celebrated Burgundy vigneron and owner of Domaine d’Ardhuy was cycling with his grandchildren in the Côtes du Rhône. He came across a largely abandoned, 45-hectare estate. It was a coup de foudre, love at first sight. He bought the property despite already owning an estate and vineyards in several famous villages of Burgundy. At the time he also had seven daughters. One, Marie-Pierre, fell in love with this place too. Like her father she saw the potential in those abandoned vines and olive trees, the Provençal warmth. She took on the derelict property and set about remaking the farm, alone. Then joined by her husband, Eric Plumet, in 1986. Today, Domaine de la Cabotte’s immaculate vines are in a single block on the Massif d’Uchaux. The 45 contiguous hectares (of which 30 are vines) surround a modern cellar (built in 2012). A half hectare of old vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was acquired in 2005. The couple's son, Etienne, joined in 2016.
