2024 J. Hofstatter Weissburgunder

With over 50 hectares of vineyards, Tenuta J. Hofstätter is among the largest family-owned wineries in Alto Adige. Greater still is their influence on the region’s viticulture over the last 40 years. Paolo Foradori (cousin of Elisabeth, famous for her Teroldego) capitalized on his father-in-law’s decision to plant pinot noir by bringing international acclaim for his single vineyard bottlings. Paolo’s son Martin has been at the helm in more recent years, and his children, the 5th generation, are waiting in the wings. Beyond pinot noir, they produce a broad range of red and white wines, taking advantage of the region’s vast varietal possibilities. Weissburgunder, or pinot blanc, was first brought to the region in the 19th century. It thrives in the hills and mountains of the South Tirolean Alps, offering effortless balance and drinkability, subtle notes of pear and quince, and bracing acidity. It makes a fine apéritif, and pairs well with gnocchi, squash ravioli, or white meats.
