2023 Celler Frisach "L'Abrunet" Blanc

Celler Frisach is a project deeply rooted in a long line of family grape and olive growers in the small Catalonian town of Corbera d’Ebre. For generations, the Ferré family sold their fruit to others, but in 2009—after a major buyer unexpectedly backed out—brothers Francesc and Joan Ferré began making wine themselves. Since then, they’ve become part of Catalonia’s thriving natural wine community, one of the most dynamic in Europe. “L’Abrunet” is a natural white wine made from 100% garnatxa blanca. Abrunet is the Catalan word for swallow—the graceful, migratory bird that travels through the region (and a favorite bird tattoo). The brothers harvest the grapes in two passes: one early for acidity and freshness, and one later for ripeness and depth. The result is a textured, layered wine, unfiltered and unfined, with just a touch of added sulfur. Pretty versatile as far as pairing—bacalao or pretty much any seafood, also gets along nicely with grilled vegetables and halloumi.
