2024 Denthis "Stamnaki" Assyrtiko

Assyrtiko from Santorini certainly paved the way for the recent wave of interest in Greek wines, so much so that they've become increasingly expensive, even before inflation, tariffs, et cetera. Enter Stamnaki, a new-ish label from Denthis, an import/coop collab focusing on rebuilding Greece's indigenous wine culture abroad. Their assyrtiko is grown on the mainland, in the mountainous region of Peloponnese, away from the sunny beaches and touristic hubbub of the islands. The variety does very well here, but acts differently, because of its more sheltered existence. A little less saline and more fruit-driven, Stamnaki's assyrtiko would be right at home with grilled or tinned sardines, octopus salad, and fresh summer salads.
