Centopassi is the wine-growing soul of Libera Terra cooperatives that cultivate typical Sicilian varieties on confiscated mafia land. The name of the project takes inspiration from the story of Peppino Impastato, a young Sicilian murdered by the mafia for his unceasing communication activity against the criminal organization. Radio Aut was the free radio that Peppino had founded in Cinisi. “Ondapazza” (“Crazy Wave”) was an important program on the station that mocked mafiosi and accomplice politicians, spreading a message of justice, freedom, and courage. Centopassi’s “Giato” label is for blends, with grapes coming from vineyards located in the central Sicilian highlands. Here we have a bright, fresh blend of Grillo and Cataratto, which gives off notes of apple, mandarin, and herbs. A go-to wine for any seafood, this would also work with lemony pasta, rosemary chicken or some goat cheese.
