2022 Chermette Beaujolais "Griottes"

With family history in the area dating back centuries, Pierre-Marie Chermette has winemaking in his blood. Good thing, as he took over the family estate from his father Maurice in 1982 at the tender age of 22! He was among the first to reject the use of industrial yeasts and additives, helping to pave the way for generations of natural wine producers in Beaujolais. Chermette's Beaujolais Nouveau, which has adorned many a Thanksgiving table in these parts, essentially re-invented the category. Not quite as feather-light and tart as that wine, his “Griottes” is a traditionally fermented wine made from vines less than 30 years old. Freshness and drinkability is the name of the game here, so expect some crunchy and tart red fruit flavors, plenty of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, and the like. Perfect for lighter fare, excellent on its own, this is a supremely crushable wine to bring to any sort of indoor or outdoor party situation where you have no idea what’s being served or if anything is being served at all!
