2022 Le Marie "Sant'Agostino"

The Le Marie winery is a small family enterprise, located in the ancient village of Barge, at the foot of the Monviso Alps. Valerio Raviolo & his wife Luigina run the business alongside their children Simona and Daniele. The family owns and works 10 hectares of vineyards, including a 1 hectare plot (named “Sant’Agostino”) of 30+ year old arneis vines. You won’t find much arneis growing outside of its stronghold of Roero (just to the south) but the Raviolos forge ahead despite the grapes’ low yields, susceptibility to disease and brief picking window (arneis translates to “little rascal” in the local Piemontese dialect). The resulting wine is exquisite with notes of lemon/lime, pear, honey and spice. Wine from this region is a relative rarity in the US so enjoy this unique taste of Pinerolese terroir, perhaps with herb roasted chicken, seared scallops or seafood pasta.
