Description

Domaine de la Bergerie has been a family estate since 1964, first purchased by Marie-Scholastique Horeau and passed on to her grandson Yves Guégniard and his wife, Marie-Annick, who passed the domaine to their daughters Anne and Marie in 2018. With this new stewardship, the domaine has fully converted to organic viticulture, after years of adhering to a high standard of excellence: green harvest, strict sorting and separate vinification of each harvested parcel. Encompassing a total of 89 acres in the heart of Côteaux du Layon, the vineyards are spread throughout multiple appellations, including Anjou (blanc and rouge), Savennières, Côteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume. A staple of the domaine for over 30 vintages, "Les Pierres Girard" is a special wine of immense character that comes from a single parcel of 50-year-old vines. With long lees-aging and a year in barrels, this wine always pushes the fruitier tones of chenin, with volumes of peach and apricot on the nose and palate. It has a particular affinity for simply prepared shrimp, and can easily take on more potent and spicy flavors.
