This is a tiny domaine of scarcely more than three hectares of Pinot Fin, an ancient clone of Pinot Noir that is very rarely found anymore in Burgundy. The approach is resolutely traditional, with destemmed grapes fermented in concrete. The style is supple, fragrant and fruit-driven, the wines invariably succulent and satiny, drinking well young and old. Many are fond of comparing Jouan’s wines to the legendary wines of the now retired Jacky Truchot. The wines share a kinship in terms of their texture and quiet, whispering allure. The production is miniscule. They have a very loyal following which makes the wines relatively unknown yet difficult to obtain. Philippe Jouan has a lot of old vines in his parcels.
Composed entirely from pinot noir vines planted in the early 1980's, this is, in fact, all pinot, but is too far from the main road (below Gevrey and Morey) to be allowed the Bourgogne Rouge appellation. 3 cases came to MA.
