The story of Vinarija Dalia is one of the rebirth of ancient and forgotten Serbian wine regions and the journey of a young woman winemaker returning home and sparking a renaissance for authentic wines in her home. The young winemaker Kristina Lukić at Vinarija Dalia, started learning how to make wine in Italy. After completing her studies in viticulture and oenology at the University of Udine, during which she completed her first two harvests in Sardinia and in Beaujolais, she started her journey around the world to enrich her cultural and professional knowledge. Given her French travels, you'd expect that she brought the gamay with her to Serbia. Not so! Centuries ago, during the phylloxera epidemic that wiped out so many of Western Europe's vines, the French found that the Negotin valley was a suitable region for producing high-quality grapes, and with easy trade, the villages of Rajac, Rogljevo and Smedovac became wealthy wine-growing villages. After French vines recovered and through geopolitical turmoil in the Negotin region, much of the active viticulture went dormant. Yet, many influences still remain to this day, such as the presence of juicy gamay in this region, which young passionate producers such as Kristina are working to revive. At 11.5% abv, this spritely, refreshing red would love a little chill and to be drunk easily and without inhibitions as we welcome the spring.
