Founded in 2008 by Jose Antonio Mokoroa and his family, Mokoroa Txakoli Winery is a small family-run estate located in Zarautz, in the heart of Gipuzkoa in Spain’s Basque Country. Just next to Getaria—the namesake of the Getariako Txakolina D.O.—Mokoroa is part of a region known for its many small producers crafting vibrant wines with a strong sense of place. The family farms six hectares of trellised, sloping vineyards facing the Cantabrian Sea, primarily planted to hondarrabi zuri, with a small amount of chardonnay. Their wines reflect the local terroir: pale yellow with greenish hues, bright and crisp, with a freshness that defines quality Txakoli. Zippy and bright, this is textbook Txakoli—low in alcohol, high in refreshment, and made for warm weather and laid-back moments. A touch of naturally retained carbonation gives it a light spritz, enhancing its citrusy, mouthwatering profile. It’s a versatile white that pairs well with grilled fish, fresh salads, or simple snacks, but shines just as easily on its own.
