When’s the last time you had some Uruguayan Albarino? Well, today’s your lucky day! Third-generation winemaker Sergio Deicas produces this little gem in the Juanico subregion of Canelones, Uruguay. Canelones is northeast of the capital Montevideo and is where most of the country’s vineyards are located. The coastal terrain and temperate climate provide optimal growing conditions for albarino and winemakers like Sergio are letting the world know that you don’t always have to go to Galicia to get the good stuff. “Faaa!” is produced from a single 12 acre vineyard (est. 2014) and it’s got all the notes: apricot, honeydew melon, peach, lemon zest, Oh, and it’s also crisp, minerally, with bright acidity and a touch of salinity. This is a fun aperitif wine to kick the night off or a refreshing companion to fish tacos (or any other seafood adventure you have in mind, really).
