El Occidental Mezcal Guerrero

El Occidental is an exploration of the origins of mezcal production in western Mexico. With three expressions of Mezcal from three different states, this brand champions the diversity of distillation in western Mexico. By incorporating modern technologies, such as farming of wild agaves and mechanical milling of the cooked piñas, alongside traditional techniques like spontaneous fermentation and distillation in small copper stills, the mezcaleros at each palenque are able to produce mezcals at competitive price point while maintaining the flavor and quality of artisanal distillates.

Occidental Guerrero is made by artisans from the state of Guerrero. For its preparation, only agave of the Cupreata variety and traditional production methods is used. The agaves are roasted for 3 days in holes in the ground, then crushed with a mechanical mill. Fermentation takes place outdoors in large wooden tubs, then distilled twice in copper stills. The result is an intense and floral mezcal with a creamy texture, accompanied by notes of tobacco and minerals.

The semi-arid microclimate of the high mountains and canyons of Axaxacualco, where this mezcal is produced, is reflected in its complex and sweet aroma on the nose and in its crunchy, herbaceous and mineral flavors in the mouth, all followed by a persistent floral note.
